U.S. Authorities Shut Down WordPress Host With 73,000 Blogs

This is very interesting, is it not?

After the U.S. Government took action against several sites connected to movie streaming recently, nerves are jangling over the possibility that this is just the beginning of a wider crackdown. Now it appears that a free blogging platform has been taken down by its hosting provider on orders from the U.S. authorities on grounds of “a history of abuse”. More than 73,000 blogs are out of action as a result.

They say it’s because of copyright infringement, but is it really? From reading the article here, it would seem that only sites/blogs which were streaming movies and TV shows were shut down initially, but upon further perusal, it seems like the Feds just arbitrarily shut down a server with several tens of thousands of bloggers on it without due process as is usual with this administration. How soon before they find some reason to shut down other servers or networks? What’s probably infuriating to the bloggers who were shut down is that they have no recourse. They have no idea why the server was shut down. And the Feds are mum about it. Also, if the bloggers can even get a hold of the server admin, they’re refused any explanation of why.

Perhaps this is just a “test case” for the FCC to see if or what they can get by with. Any opinions?

  12. MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!! You out-scooped Drudge! He FINALLY got this important story up there today. Don’t know when he got it up but I just noticed it up this a.m. WTG!

    J.D.

  13. It would be nice to think so JD, but that’s where I got it from. 😉 A little title blurb on Drudge sent me to Torrent Freak where the story originates.

We did get mention in the EU Times though.

    Have a good one, Mike

  14. I sent Drudge a link to the Torrent Freak story yesterday. I can’t find any follow ups today.

  16. This is another step toward tyranny and the INTERNET is the last main free speech forum so it is being attacked. The nearness of the Nov. elections is probably not a coincidence that a major site provider is being closed down. my own blog (blogger.com site) has been tampered with for the last 14 month where my posted political videos from You Tube have been overridden with links to non related music videos. My complaints have lead nowhere. I am taking to the streets soon with signs because more people may see my messages than on my blog locally. This is where this is headed if it is not stopped. Complain to responsible Congress members.

    • Some people have commented on other blogs that are carrying this story, that a person can use an overseas server or portal, which the US government has no control over. I’m a” computer illidiot” *so I don’t know nor can I quantify these statements.

      * Illiterate on the computer

  17. I wish that would shut Sarah Palin down, she is nothing but a ego money hungry cheer leader that is exploiting the country and making fools of all

Oh come on Robin, admit it – you’re just jealous because Sarah is attractive, articulate, famous, talented and somewhat wealthy.

All the things you’d wish you were…

  19. Jealousy will get you nowhere Robin. Although I’m not particularily a die-hard fan of Sarah Palin, she has invigorated the Conservative base in this country. She needs to be given kudos for that.

I think she made a couple of mistakes in some of the people she put her name behind like John McCain and Carla Fiorina, but I believe she is a quick learner and won’t make that mistake again.

  20. Gentlemen and Lady…in my olde outfit we used to refer to this kinda widely, overblown, paranoia as bein’ Shaky Jake’s and one mission wonder’s

Might appear to this olde doggie, Robin; is the only one with her head on straight here…

    H&K’s soldiers…!

  21. Hey Mike… it’s not hangin’, it’s perkin’, around here…

Appears to me that Robin; sorta pushed yer and LTB’s, gotcha buttons…?

  22. Well…iffin’ you don’t want yer chain jerked, then you shouldn’t post comments on a blog. I can take it as well as give it, unlike most liberals I know, present company excluded.

    Regards, Mike
