Another “let me be clear” moment from Obama

So, first President Obama backed the building of the Ground Zero Mosque beginning with those four magic words he loves, let me be clear.

“As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country,” Obama told an intently listening crowd gathered at the White House Friday evening to observe the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

“That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances,” he said. “This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable.”

Then the cascades of criticism began to fall, and he felt a sudden need to clear up, and clarify hs meaning. So let him be clear again

During a trip to Florida for a family vacation, Obama said his comments from Friday night were only directed at the constitutional right of the mosque to be there, and whether preventing the mosque’s construction impinges on the right to freedom of religion.

“I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there,” he said in response to a reporter’s question after he spoke about efforts to aid the Gulf Coast region. “I was commenting very specifically on the right people have that dates back to our founding. That’s what our country is about.”

One of the President’s spokesmen even tried to clear up, the president’s attempt to clear up his previous “let me be clear” comments

“Just to be clear, the president is not backing off in any way from the comments he made last night. It is not his role as president to pass judgment on every local project. But it is his responsibility to stand up for the constitutional principle of religious freedom and equal treatment for all Americans. What he said last night, and reaffirmed today, is that If a church, a synagogue or a Hindu temple can be built on a site, you simply cannot deny that right to those who want to build a mosque.”

Well, Mr. President, glad you could clear all of that up! But, allow me to be clear, Mr. President, PICK a position, take a stand! You know, like you did on Arizona, where you are against local control. Or like you did over the Cambridge police. You know, you were decisive there, you came out and said the police acted stupidly! Maybe you should just say that the Muslims behind this mosque are acting stupidly, and being insensitive Mr. President.

The obligatory Democrat wishes Sarah Palin dead post

by Doug Hagin

What an absolute piece of trash! H/T to Weasel Zippers

(Daily Caller)– A New Hampshire candidate for the state house is taking heat from the state Republican Party after he wrote on a Facebook thread that he wishes former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and the father of her grandson were in the plane crash that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens in Alaska on Monday.

“Just wish Sarah and Levy (sic) were on board,” wrote Keith Halloran, a Democratic candidate for Cheshire County House District 7, referencing Palin and Levi Johnson, the on-again, off-again boyfriend of her daughter.

What a despicable thing to say, and who wants to bet the media gives this clown a pass? However, imagine if the parties were reversed? Think the media would be so forgiving?

Harry Reid: Give me that old-time race baitng!

by Doug Hagin

Ah, my first post here on Smash Mouth, first of all, I am thankful for this opportunity to expand my blogging role, I have always enjoyed Smash Mouth, and am pleased to be a small part of it.

Now, down to business! Senator Harry Red, or Weasel Dick as I call him, seems to have the idea that he knows how Hispanics ought to think. Via Wizbang

In typical Democratic fashion, Harry Reid played the identity politics card in a speech to Hispanics in Las Vegas yesterday:

U.S. Sen. Harry Reid on Tuesday slammed Republicans for blocking comprehensive immigration reform and told Hispanics they shouldn’t be treated differently because “their skin’s a tone darker” than that of America’s early European immigrants.

“I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK,” Reid said, speaking to Latino supporters whose votes he needs to win re-election in November. “Do I need to say more?”

Ah, I see Reid does not want minorities straying from the Liberal Plantation of Ideology. You Hispanics better know your place! The tolerant Liberals like Reid know how you should think, and vote! Tell me again, which party has the problem with racism?

Today’s Airborne “O”gasm: “No stomach for Immigration This year”

While onboard Air Farce One (only named such with Mr. Obama is on board), Mr. Obama was asked about Arizona’s SB1070 and whether Congress would try to tackle immigration issues this year.  Following the same canned rhetoric he’s been using since earlier this month, Mr. Obama was quoted as again saying felt that “…Congress may not have the stomach for Immigration this year…”

Fiberals are starting to see the writing on the wall:  They are set to be trounced in upcoming primaries and in November.  They don’t want to touch Immigration, which is likely to have them tarred and feathered after they are drawn and quartered.  And Mr. Obama is not ready to flush what little political clout remaining in his pithy hands on an issue he sees as a loser.

Which brings me back to a point I made earlier:  Immigration is only a loser issue (politically) because Fiberals and their minions such as Darth Sharpton have made it so.  Instead of recognizing this FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, Fiberals instead seek to gain political “brownie points” from their home-made underclass.  Funny how elected leaders prefer to do what’s wrong for poll numbers; instead of doing what’s right and in such gaining the trust, confidence and thanks of those they were elected to serve.

And in an ironic twist I just remembered something:  We the people may not have to stomach much of Congress AFTER this year.  Or Mr. Obama after 2011.

See? it all fits!

A message to “Libertarians”

Previously posted, but moved up front 5/21/09 for emphasis, and in reply to those who would rename the GOP and call it the Liberty Party:  I know you think are are sophisticated. I know you look down on rubes who believe in old-fashioned, quaint antiquated notions of morality and decency.  In fact, I believe that you consider your position to be so superior to the conservative position that you look down on any who do not agree with your position. But you aren’t as smart as you think. The Founding Fathers drew a clear distinction between liberty and licentiousness. You’ve either forgotten the difference, or never knew it in the first place.
