Oh no! Not another boycott from the self-appointed moarlity wing of the GOP!

By Doug Hagin

A couple of groups are vowing to boycott CPAC this year because the group GOPProud, a Gay Republican group was invited. Hmmm, why would they take a “I will take my ball and go home” attitude? Why not act like adults, and go, have some discourse, find out where they agree/disagree with GOPProud? Perhaps there is more in common between these groups than not?

Frankly, if I attend CPAC, which I would like to, or not depends on work, not on who is attending. Frankly, I have problems with some of the Nanny Statism I hear from the groups that have their panties in a bunch. So what? Does not mean I would not go just because they were going to be there. Likewise with GOPProud. I might not like everything that group stands for either. Again SO WHAT?

Frankly, the Concerned Women for America and the Family Research Council ought to be bigger than they are being about this. Their boycott is nothing but a childish stunt  in my view.

Two of the nation’s premier moral issues organizations, the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America, are refusing to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference in February because a homosexual activist group, GOProud, has been invited.

“We’ve been very involved in CPAC for over a decade and have managed a couple of popular sessions. However, we will no longer be involved with CPAC because of the organization’s financial mismanagement and movement away from conservative principles,” said Tom McClusky, senior vice president for FRC Action.

“CWA has decided not to participate in part because of GOProud,” CWA President Penny Nance told WND.

FRC and CWA join the American Principles Project, American Values, Capital Research Center, the Center for Military Readiness, Liberty Counsel, and the National Organization for Marriage in withdrawing from CPAC. In November, APP organized a boycott of CPAC over the participation of GOProud.

There is also a good deal of dismay over the growing Libertarian attitude among many Republicans. Frankly, the GOP should embrace more of the Libertarian ideals, not all necessarily, but many of them. The fact is the more we can remove government from our lives, ALL areas of our lives, the better! Some “Social Conservatives” are all for embracing small government, until something offends them. Then they want the FCC to crack down on TV, then they start carping about “public airwaves” and “community standards” to beat the band. Of course, now their mantra about5 public airwaves is being used by Liberals like Al Sharpton to try and use the FCC to control Conservative talkers like Rush Limbaugh.

The sad fact is this, once you invite the government into your home to control your TV, or your community standards, so you will not be offended, that same government will soon be in every room of your house. That same government will soon be controlling everything you do. The Social Conservatives ought to learn this lesson, and learn how to use the remote control as well. trust me it is pretty easy.

Again, boycotting CPAC just makes these groups look less Conservative and more like Liberals to me. If I were to advise them, I would say grow up and show up.

  1. Let’s change the facts a little to create a hypothetical. Hows about we welcome some group called “GOPers for Obama and Proud?” Or “GOPers for complete gun control?” Or “GOPers for making America into a third rate socialist country?” Or what if Mike Vick, Arriana Huffington and Bernie Maddow were all given welcome invitations? At some point, wouldn’t YOUR feathers be ruffled? And would you go share a cocktail and try to see what you had in common with such vermin?

Maybe you would, but even if you would, that doesn’t make you morally superior to those who wouldn’t. And if it was somebody who was as repugnant as say Markos Molitsas, or Keith Olberman, who loathe everything that you stand for, would you tell yourself to “grow up and show up?”

We all have lines over which we will not cross, and we all often belittle those who draw their lines in places where we don’t. Not trying to change your mind, or suggest that you are drawing your line in the incorrect location, I am merely trying to get you to see the issue through the So-Con’s perspective. GOProud is just as odious to certain SoCons as the other groups I’ve mentioned hopefully are to you.

  2. Hey JD, surprises me you’d side with the conservative bigots on this one…

However…Mine is not to reason why..?
Mine, is but to do, or wish all you Smashmouth bloggers…

  3. Hey, Gramps, surprises me that you would side with the immoral, God hating, faggot loving anti-American Sodomites on this one. But HAPPY NEW YEARS! I’ll tip my glass to you once I land in Vegas and find the nearest bar. Set to land at 11:59 p.m. local time, which sucks. Unless they pass out champagne on the plane.

  4. Well…“kiss my grits”…!
It would appear Sarahcuda and I are on the same page with respect to DADT…
