Save 15% at GEICO gets tea bagged

Leftwingers are real big on boycotts and trying to get people fired.  But at least one doesn’t think it is so funny now.  The voice in the commercials that say “save up to 15% at GEICO”  has been dismissed from his job for using his highly recognizable voice to leave a voicemail in the mailbox of Tea Party group Freedomworks asking how many of its members were “mentally retarded” and what the response would be when a member inevitably killed someone.”

Ooopsy.  Freedomworks complained vigorously to GEICO and he got canned. Now he wants to sue.  Any lawyer dumb enough to take on the case, knock yourself out.

Here is the reality, folks.  We have freedom of speech in America, so you and I can say any damn stupid shit that we want.  Hell, that’s what keeps me blogging-damn stupid shit.

But then you gotta be a man and suffer the consequences. Whether it’s a fat lip, the loss of sponsors, the loss of friends, or even the loss of your job.  Sucks when it happens, but you should think of that before you say it.  Unless yer like me, too stupid to give a damn for the consequences, and too poor to be sued.  Being “judgment proof” has at least that as a benefit.

And the stupid f*ckwad only wants to sue if some lawyer will take the case pro bono.

Hey John, got free time? (j/k!)

  4. Uuuummmm…………, I think if you get a fat lip as a consequence of using your freedom of speech that means you don’t really have freedom of speech, in that you are not free from coercion and assault.

This reasoning my work in the case of losing the job also, but I don’t know the details.

  6. I don’t know Sheldon…you walk up to a 6’5″, 265# bruiser and call him a “stupid dipshit dumbass”, then explain about your right to free speech. See how far that will get you while you’re picking your teeth up off the ground.

You DO have free speech, but you also have to think of the consequences of what you say and how you say it…and in the case above, who you say it to.

  7. Two lessons here Sheldon. Freedom of Speech is only as good as the extent to which you are willing to fight for it. And The First Amendment only protects you from THE GOVERNMENT interfering with that freedom; it does not protect against private individuals.

  8. One more lesson. A man who makes his living on the recognition of his voice should NOT use it to make incendiary (and in this case patently false) comments.

Can anyone imagine some of the great voices of our time, such as James Earl Jones, Gary Owens, Vincent Price or even Jeff Bridges sacrificing their careers for a call like this? Didn’t think so.
