Things have changed since I was a kid…

kids_fishing_from_dockThis isn’t one of those “I walked 5 miles to school in the snow” posts. But things have REALLY changed! During summers when I was a kid, I used to be gone from the early morning until late at night. And my parents never worried about where I was or what I was doing. There was no reason to worry. Life was simpler. There was less crime. There were less freaks trying to harm kids. Continue reading

Kecksburg UFO incident

I know this is sorta old news, but I vividly remember as a kid in Michigan seeing what we were told was a meteorite. We were out playing in our back yard at night. Suddenly the entire sky was lit up and it flew directly overhead. It seemed so close we ran to the back of our yard, thinking we could catch up to it and watch it crash. Look at the last picture in the pictures of the following site: it shows the entire sky totally lit up. That’s exactly what I remember seeing. But we never heard it crash. And we didn’t have any video cameras (we still had black and white TVs, and rotary phones, and mimeograph machines to make copies with). I’d put the date as sometime between 1964 and 1968. Since I didn’t read the papers back then, or watch the news, I never heard anything about what it was.

UPDATE: WHOA! Did I observe a UFO? After initially posting this article, I decided to do a Google search to see if it had made the news. I guessed it occurred in 1965, so I googled Meteor Michigan 1965. I found a site that says bits of something were found in Lapeer Michigan (I lived approximately 5-10 miles from there at the time, in Burton Michigan).  Continue reading

Bad Santa

bad-santaI couldn’t sleep this a.m. so I got up and watched a TIVO of “Bad Santa.” I laughed out loud about every two minutes while watching it. Don’t watch it with kids or if you are offended by sex, profanity and immorality. But I love it. Billy Bob Thornton plays a drunk Santa. It even has a happy ending.

There is even a webpage devoted exclusively to memorable quotes in the movie! Continue reading
