Sadly, I’m old enough to remember rooting for him. He played until I was about 16 years old. From MLive:
“LeBeau was a fifth-round draft pick in 1959 by the Cleveland Browns, but was cut in training camp. He joined the Lions that season and then played 14 years in Detroit. He went to three Pro Bowls and his 62 interceptions remains the second most in league history by a true cornerback.”
“After retiring, LeBeau spent the next 37 years in coaching and is currently the defensive coordinator for Pittsburgh, winning two Super Bowls with the Steelers. LeBeau, who is widely considered the innovator of the “zone blitz,” was voted into the Hall of Fame, though, strictly on his credentials as a player.”
Dick is the oldest coach in the NFL and is widely credited with popularizing the “zone blitz.”
“He was a 3 time pro-bowler, and still holds the record for consecutive games played as a cornerback/safety, with 171.”
