Even a broken clock is correct twice a day
I agree with Robert B. Reich. “What happened to democracy” is spot on. Although, his title should read: “What happened to republican form of democracy?”
But he correctly points out that all the big decisions in government lately are made by un-elected officials behind closed doors in secrecy. Congress wrote the TARP fund a blank check and passed the decisions on whom gets paid how much to unelected tax cheats and such. And those people hide from the American citizens where their money was spent.
The Federal Reserve is composed of private citizens who hide behind curtains like the Wizard of Oz while making monumental decisions that affect the entire world economy. The debate over ObamaCare occurs in smoke filled rooms clouded with secrecy. Now, Congress wants to appoint a special commission to cut spending. NO you bumbling idiots–you do it. That’s why we elected you.
Here is the money quote:
“Democracy requires at least three parts: Important decisions are made in the open. The public and its representatives have an opportunity to debate and influence them. And those who make the big decisions are accountable to voters.”
Excellant short article, which I consider a must read.
